Measuring Life by….

the dew drops on the leaves,
falling on the fluttering feathers of the sparrow.

the dog sniffing at the leftovers,
reminding of the last night’s party.

the pink stroke in the sky,
nudging the soft whiteness of the clouds.

the sigh of the cleaning woman,
trudging her weary legs to the house.

the twinkle in the eyes of children,
waiting for their school buses on the road.

the toothless smile of the old man,
sitting aimlessly at the local dhaba.

the sleepy voice of the newly-wed girl,
bidding farewell to her husband.

the look in the eyes of the cycling young man,
moving aside to let the honking car pass.

the sweet fragrance of the heliotropes,
swaying with the breeze in the lawn.

the dirt-smeared face of the child,
hauling the garbage bag on his small shoulders.
